1. Enhancing international, global sports exchanges & cooperation
Based on sports culture and dual-Olympic facilities, the National Aquatics Center proactively hosts global cultural exchange events, works closely with sports authorities and competition organizers, and strives to be a window for Beijing – the country's cultural hub and center for international exchange.
Implementation Steps:
2021-2022: The National Aquatics Center will seize on the opportunities provided by the 2022 Winter Games, build close connections with relevant competition organizers and introduce high-level winter sports events.
2021-2023: Fueled by the 2022 Winter Games, the National Aquatics Center will cooperate with winter sports industries in Beijing and nationwide, promote ice and snow sports among the public and launch relevant training programs.
2023-2025: The National Aquatics Center will adopt a global vision to help build China into a strong sporting country and support Beijing's building of the "four centers" (namely political, cultural, international communication and sci-tech innovation centers). Based on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the National Aquatics Center will work to establish cross-regional mechanisms for sports cooperation and exchange both at home and abroad.
2. Upgrading ability to host top-level global competitions, events
Focusing on top-level water and ice sports competitions at global and national levels and sporting exchange events among BRI countries, the National Aquatics Center will work to maintain its leading position in organizing and hosting water and ice sports in the post-Beijing Olympics era.
Implementation Steps:
2022-2023: On the basis of World Cup water sports events it has previously hosted, the National Aquatics Center plans to host one global ice sport competition and one national swimming event.
2023-2025: The National Aquatics Center will host and develop mass sporting events at an international level based on the theme of the BRI.
