2025-05-09

With China claiming all nine golds at the World Aquatics Diving World Cup Super Final, the National Aquatics Center reaffirmed its status as a global benchmark for hosting world-class sporting events.

The venue, also known as the Water Cube or Ice Cube, served as the stage for this top-tier event from May 2-4. Leveraging its Olympic legacy and cutting-edge facilities, the venue delivered a seamless experience for athletes and spectators alike.

Preparation began well ahead of the competition, with training sessions held from April 29 to May 1. To ensure smooth event execution, the venue mobilized a dedicated team responsible for planning and facility readiness. Temporary signage and event-specific installations were set up accordingly. All key systems, including water quality, lighting and ventilation, underwent rigorous pre-event testing, while a detailed emergency response plan was also put in place to ensure safety throughout the venue.

To enhance the spectator experience, a new viewing area was set up beneath the diving board, offering 200 fans with a front-row seat to watch the world's best divers in action. The venue also introduced an outdoor fan area in its south square, welcoming the public with live screenings, interactive games and a festive open-air food market.

Held over the May Day holiday, the three-day competition drew over 18,400 spectators to the arena, generating 5.7 million yuan (about $790,000) in ticket revenue with over 90% seating occupancy. Meanwhile, the outdoor fan area in the south square saw more than 200,000 visits and drove over 600,000 yuan in spending. Merchandise also proved popular, with nearly 500,000 yuan in sales of official licensed products.

During the holiday period, the venue welcomed over 20,000 visitors, with total consumer spending surpassing 7 million yuan and daily attendance peaking at 7,000 visitors. Looking ahead, the National Aquatics Center will continue leveraging its dual-Olympic legacy through hosting world-class international competitions and further integrating sports, culture and tourism experiences.
